Association Facts

1909 - first graduating class from

The Alumni Association was organized in 1917; several of the graduates thinking it would be nice to form an organization as other schools had done.  Members of the first meeting were Ruth Davis Sullivan, Grace Fuss, Donna Dyke Hunley, Ruth Scharling Sanchez, Effie Pipe Critchley, and Fannie Howard Austin.

In 1918, the Association enjoyed a social evening with Fannie Howard, the boys giving two bits apiece toward the ice cream and the girls furnishing the rest of the refreshments.  Hazel Zunini likewise entertained the organization.  As the organization increased in number the banquets were served at public halls. The organization has sponsored the Alumni Ball the past twelve years, always being held at the Arobio Hall.

Among presidents of the organization have been Ruth Davis Sullivan, Fannie Howard Austin, Pearl Stoker, Albert Sommer, Clarence Stoker, Clarence Sommer (twice), Bill Baker, Lyle Stoker, Arthur Gottschalk, Harold Hanson, Edward Anderson, and Walter Hansen.  

In 1932 the Association sponsored the making of the Block ‘L’ on a mountain east of Lovelock.

1934 is the twenty-fifth year since the first graduate, Mrs. Georgia Damm Buckman, left the Pershing County High School (then Humboldt County High School).

Bob Adamson surveyed the’L’, the largest high school Letter at the time.  Bill Baker, Harold Hansen, Alyn Carville, Nordy Wadsworth, Ed Anderson, Jack Clawsen, George Hansen, Jackie Clawson, and Ed Baker painted the ‘L’ and Pershing County furnished lime for the ‘L’.
